The Brow House Team
Kira Thompson, Founder and President – The Brow House Inc.
Kira Thompson has worked in the beauty industry as a make-up artist, working also in management and sales for major cosmetics brands nationally and internationally for over 20 years. After returning to Toronto from New York City in 2005, Kira knew it was time for something new and different not only for herself but for Toronto too.
“Eyebrows are an essential component to a person’s look and confidence. I have seen women and men transformed through great brow design. And, I knew I wanted to offer them this opportunity through a concept salon – focused solely on the face and specifically brows”, says Kira. She signed herself into an entrepreneurship program and set out to develop her unique little concept. Kira explains, “It was fun to dream and imagine the possibilities of opening up my own business but a challenging feat to actually do it. I thought, well, I’ve come this far, nothing ventured, nothing gained. So off I began.”
The first incarnation of The Brow House was born in December 2005. It was a small test run to determine that there was a need and to grow a client base. “It was a humble beginning” Kira explains, “but much to my anticipation a need was fulfilled and through the power of word of mouth we began to grow”.
Kira is an entrepreneur at heart. Since childhood, Kira was inventive, creative and resourceful, A single mom, Kira notes that the birth of her son Isa was a real catalyst and inspiration to making this current dream a reality. “Isa is such an inspiration. When I look into in my son’s eyes I find further will and determination. He shows me that anything and everything is possible. I also couldn’t have done it without the support of Carlos Ortiz, my family and friends.”
2009 offered another leap for The Brow House. Kira created a new eyebrow product line, “I have always wanted to develop a product line of high quality that I am confident in.” And in August 2009, The Brow House relocated to 1256 Queen St East location in the booming Leslieville neighborhood in Toronto.
2011 is a year of planning with the intent franchising future locations and expansion of The Brow House brand. Additionally in 2012, The Brow House will offer a Re:Shape Brow Designer Certification Program; a training module for professionals in the beauty industry. Says Kira, “Who would have known something so simple could be so special.”
